Medicare Advantage Plans in CT
.Effective January of 2010
Annual Election Period (AEP) Nov. 15 until Dec. 31

We will make it clear right now that we do not encourage enrollment into a PFFS plan in Connecticut. Our experience has been that many Medicare Beneficiaries who enrolled in those plans had difficulty finding medical providers who would accept those plans, let along understand the plans. If you need assistance enrolling in a Medicare Advantage PFFS plan, we will help you. But we will not put our names on the enrollment forms, nor will we accept an enrollment fee from the carriers.

This is obviously our way of suggesting you choose a plan the either:
1) Allows you to see any provider who accepts Medicare Patients
2) Publishers a list of all participating providers in their network

PFFS plans do neither, instead, the provider has to accept Medicare patients, as well as
accept the "terms and conditions" of the PFFS contract. Good luck with that one.

When you join a Medicare Advantage Plan, you use the health insurance card that you get from the plan for your health care. In most of these plans, generally there are extra benefits and lower out-of-pocket costs than in the Original Medicare Plan. However, you may have to see doctors that belong to the plan or go to certain hospitals to get services.

To join a Medicare Advantage Plan, you must have Medicare Part A and Part B. You will have to pay your monthly Medicare Part B premium to Medicare. In addition, you might have to pay a monthly premium to your Medicare Advantage Plan for the extra benefits that they offer.

If you join a Medicare Advantage Plan, your Medigap policy won’t work. This means it won’t pay any deductibles, co payments, or other cost-sharing under your Medicare Health Plan. Therefore, you may want to drop your Medigap policy if you join a Medicare Advantage Plan. However, you have a legal right to keep the Medigap policy.
